#TBT – A weekly playlist – 1997

Welcome to my weekly music feature! I already have a monthly playlist on the go to promote what I’m jamming to on a monthly basis. But it’s NOT ENOUGH. Music is such a huge part of my life that I felt I needed to share more.

For those of you that aren’t aware of the #TBT situation – we’re talking throwback Thursday. We’re taking it way back. At least 10 years old. ( At the time of this post, we’re talking no newer than 2006!)

Which by the way, freaks me right out. In 2006, I was graduating grade 11, working in Edmonton over the summer, and started grade 12. For some of you, I’m sure you’re chuckling, but I can only say how what I am experiencing.

For each year I feature as a throwback, I will feature the same amount of tracks as my age that year. That being said, some years I will need to double my age (ie. 1995 I was six, and I don’t think it’s fair to only feature six tracks!)
Away we go!

This week – 1997 hits.
This is the year I really tuned into popular music. This list is a mix of hits I really enjoyed at the time and jamz I discovered later.

A snapshot of me at 8 years old (or 7.5, as I was born in may).

  • I loved the spice girls. GIRL POWER.
  • I was competing in beauty pageants.
  • I went to Mexico and got super burned (a pale lady like myself doesn’t do well in excess sunlight/heat.)
  • I got my hair corn-row’ed. Fierce!
  • I love buying “teen” magazines – tiger beat, teen beat, all of it!
  • I watched much music in hopes of catching my favourite artists’ videos.

Since 1997 was a big year, I will double the age I was that year. (Which was 8 LOL, so that means 16 tracks.) I was in third grade.

The playlist

  1. Semi-Charmed Life – Third Eye Blind
  2. Where’s the Love – Hanson
  3. Do you know (what it takes) – Robyn
  4. Return of the mack – Mark Morrison
  5. Nobody – Keith Sweat
  6. Honey (Remix) – Mariah Carey
  7. I’ll be – Foxy Brown
  8. Mo Money, Mo Problems – Notorious B.I.G.

Same!!!! The spice girls were a huge part of my life – but I only put one song on the playlist since I didn’t want it to be overtaken with spice girls and BSB. 😛
