Avocado toast – a great base for a choose your own adventure!

Toast is delish on its own… but add some extras and it brings the toast game to new levels! If you can find some gluten free vegan bread, go for it! I didn’t feel like spending 8$ on a loaf of bread, so we got some rye bread.

That being said, for this recipe, I used some 2 slices of rye bread, toasted to my liking, and lightly “butter’d” with butter sub – I use earth balance. If you think that’s too much, then feel free to skip this step. 🙂


  • 1/2 an avocado
  • approx 1/2 tsp grated lemon, or to taste
  • Fresh cracked black pepper
  • Cayenne pepper to taste

Optional, choose your own adventure, all to taste:

  • Basil
  • Baby Tomatoes
  • Ginger
  • Nutritional Yeast
  • Garlic
  • Mint
  • Strawberries

  1. After “buttering” your toast (optional!), cover with avocado.
  2. Crack pepper + add cayenne.
  3. Grate frozen lemon directly on top of toast.
  4. Mix with a knife, spreading evently.
  5. From here is up to you, add none or all of the optional ingredients.
  6. Repeat for other slice of toast.
  7. Enjoy!

Pro tip
This would also make a great sandwich! 🙂
