When life hands you lemons – you should wash and freeze them for optimal benefits!
You probably already know that lemons are extremely versatile – but did you know that most people are missing out on the most nutritious part of the lemon? The peel!
Why the peel? Not only does the peel help detoxify the body, the lemon peel contains 5 to 10 times more vitamins than the lemon’s juice.
How to make the most of your lemons
Note: Ensure to select organic lemons when following these steps to ensure you get the most benefit out of the lemon.
- Wash + dry.
- Place lemon in airtight container/freezer baggie.
When you’re ready to use the lemon
- Ensure to have some kind of hand coverage (rubber gloves, oven mitt, etc.) as the lemon is frozen and will potentially “burn” your hand if held for too long (word to the wise! I have attempted and my hand did not feel very nice).
- Grate desired amount (ie. if recipe calls for 2 tsp of lemon juice – grate 2 tsp worth)
This lemon can be used in anything that typically requires lemon juice…and also makes a lovely topping for most foods/beverages (think pasta sauce, soup, salad, stir frys, potatoes, water, alcoholic beverages, etc.) The taste is amazing and is, in my opinion, better tasting than just lemon juice alone.

On a random side note (and maybe this is quite obvious to some) – ensure that if you are juicing with lemons to let the lemon thraw prior to juicing – your juicer will not like you and it creates this goop that doesn’t even make it into your juice. Just sayin’…..
